Englewood Car Chase Ends in Fatality

January 31, 2011 - A chase between two vehicles in Englewood on Sunday left one man dead and another seriously injured. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the fatal car accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is still investigating this fatal Englewood car crash, but officers believe that two cars were racing or involved in a chase on South Racine Avenue. Investigators have not determined exactly what the drivers were doing or if one car was fleeing from another.

One driver lost control of his vehicle in the 5900 block of South Racine Avenue and slammed into a utility pole. The driver of that car died at the scene, while a passenger was transported to Stroger Hospital with life-threatening personal injuries. This unidentified passenger is currently listed in serious condition.

The victim has been identified as a 27-year-old man, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. The passenger has not been identified. Police have not said if the second vehicle has been located, but it does not appear that the occupants of that car suffered any injuries.
