December 8, 2010 - A drunk driver who killed a young girl in a car accident more than a decade ago is behind bars again for driving under the influence. According to a report at the Chicago Tribune, the man is being held on bail after he was found passed out behind the wheel of an idling car in Joliet on Saturday. Police discovered an opened bottle of vodka in the car.
The driver, a 32-year-old man from Braidwood, served 7 years in prison for the death of a 10-year-old girl. The accident happened on May 4, 1999, when the driver broadsided a vehicle while he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. He was later charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide. The mother of the victim told the Chicago Tribune that she feels sorry for the driver, who has not learned his lesson after causing her daughter's death so many years ago.
The driver is due in court on Dec. 27. If he is found guilty of felony DUI, he may serve another 1 to 3 years in prison. He is also facing charges of driving with a suspended license.
