Drunk Driver Sentenced for Lombard Accident

July 23, 2010 - A drunk driver who seriously injured a Lombard woman last October received his sentence on Thursday. According to reports at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the 28-year-old man received 90 days of work-release in connection with the accident, which occurred on October 18, 2009.

The man, a resident of Downers Grove, was driving on Maple Street in Lombard shortly after 4:30 a.m. when he ran a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle. The occupant of that car, a 55-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening personal injuries, including a crushed pelvis and broken back. Nearly a year later, the victim is still recuperating from her injuries; she was in the hospital for a month. 

The driver who caused this car accident was later found to have a blood-alcohol level of .18. He was facing charges of aggravated drunk driving, which carries a maximum of 12 years in prison. Thanks to a guilty plea, the driver will only spend 3 months in a work-release program. After he serves that sentence, he will be on probation for 2 years.
