Driver Survives Ejection in Dan Ryan Crash
December 23, 2010 - A local man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries on Monday when he was ejected from his vehicle during a car accident. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the single-vehicle accident occurred around 11 p.m. on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago.
It is not yet clear exactly how this crash occurred, but investigators with the Illinois State Police believe that the victim crashed his car into a guardrail on the northbound side of the Dan Ryan Expressway. The driver was ejected in the course of the crash and landed headfirst on the road. Remarkably, police say his injuries are not life threatening, although he is receiving treatment for serious injuries at Stroger Hospital. Police have not said if the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
The victim's identity has not yet been released. Investigators have interviewed witnesses to the crash, who said they noticed erratic driving in the moments before the accident. Toxicology tests will likely determine if alcohol or drugs were involved. The northbound side of the Expressway was closed for almost 2 hours.
