Driver Killed in West Chicago Truck Accident

January 20, 2011 - An unidentified victim was killed in a horrific truck accident on Wednesday that left a pickup truck wedged underneath a semi-trailer. According to a report at My Fox Chicago, the fatal truck accident occurred early on Wednesday morning in West Chicago.

Details on this truck fatal accident are still trickling out, but police say the pickup truck was traveling on Powis Road when it slammed into the back of a semi-truck near the intersection with North Avenue. Pictures from the scene show the cab of the white pickup truck was crushed and completely wedged underneath the back of the semi. This type of truck accident is also known as an "under-ride accident".

The vehicles were traveling on a two-lane road and snow is clearly visible along the roadway, although police have not said if the crash is weather-related. Investigators have not determined what caused the pickup truck to rear-end the semi, although it appears that the semi may have been attempting to make a left turn onto another road. If so, the semi may have braked to attempt the turn.

Police say one person was killed in this crash, although the victim's identity has not yet been released.
