Driver Cited in Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Chicago


September 2, 2010 - A Chicago man died Tuesday night after he was hit by a car while riding a bicycle on the Northwest Side. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the victim was cycling on Irving Park Road when he was struck in the intersection of Forest Preserve Avenue and Irving Park. The fatal bicycle accident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Police say a 35-year-old man was driving an Infiniti on Irving Park Road when he attempted to turn left, and crashed into the bicyclist. The victim's identity has not been released, but police say he is a man around 40-years-old. He suffered serious personal injuries, and police have confirmed that the unidentified victim died several hours after the accident at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

The Chicago Police Department has cited the driver who caused this fatal bicycle accident. Police say he was driving without insurance, and he also received a citation for negligence. The Major Accident Investigation Unit with the Chicago Police Department continues to investigate this crash.
