Chicago Woman Pinned Underneath Stolen SUV

January 19, 2011 - A car thief driving a stolen car is responsible for nearly killing a Chicago woman on Monday afternoon. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the pedestrian was hit while crossing the street. Police are treating this crime as a hit-and-run accident.

Police say the victim was walking across South Racine Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday when she was hit by the stolen SUV. The woman was then pinned underneath the vehicle until rescue workers arrived. Police say the driver of the stolen car ran from the scene after striking the pedestrian, and police have yet to apprehend him. The victim, who has not yet been identified, suffered serious personal injuries and was transported to Stroger Hospital. She is currently in critical condition.

Pictures from the scene show a silver SUV with significant front-end damage and several flat tires. It also appears that first responders removed the SUV's bumper in order to free the victim. The SUV was listed as stolen, but it was not immediately clear when it was initially stolen.
