January 31, 2011 - A Chicago woman suffered serious personal injuries on Wednesday after she was hit by a car while waiting for a bus on the South Side. According to a report at My Fox Chicago, the Chicago hit and run accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. during rush hour on Wednesday evening.
Police say the victim was standing on a sidewalk at a bus stop near State Street and 69th Street when she was hit by a Buick LeSabre that crashed onto the sidewalk. The driver of the Buick abandoned her car and ran from the scene on foot towards a nearby CTA station. The victim, a 58-year-old woman from Chicago, was transported with serious injuries to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Doctors were able to save her life, but they were forced to amputate the victim's leg.
An outraged community helped police track down the hit and run driver. Volunteers handed out hundreds of flyers after the Chicago hit and run accident, which helped local police identity the driver as a 21-year-old woman who lives on South Claremont Avenue. The driver was in court on Saturday, where she was formally charged with various crimes relating to the hit and run accident, in addition to speeding, negligent driving, damaging public property and driving without a license or insurance. She is being held in jail on $100,000 bond. Her next court date has been set for Feb. 4.
