Chicago Pedestrian Killed by SUV

August 30, 2010 - A young man died early Sunday morning after he was hit by an SUV while walking in Chicago. According to a report at the Chicago Sun-Times, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. in the Logan Square area of Chicago.

Police are still investigating exactly how the accident happened, but initial reports indicate that the victim was walking on North Ridgeway Avenue when he was hit by an Oldsmobile SUV. After being hit, the victim was pinned between the Oldsmobile and a GMC SUV. First responders were able to extricate the victim from the wreckage, but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead by paramedics. The victim has not been identified, but police say that he was likely in his late teens.

The driver of the SUV who caused this crash has also not been identified, and police have not said if alcohol played a role. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit with the Chicago Police Department is investigating this fatal pedestrian accident. More information will be released if and when it becomes available.
