February 4, 2011 – A pedestrian was killed on Wednesday after he was hit by a truck operated by the Chicago Department of Transportation. According to a report at the Chicago Sun-Times, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the pedestrian was walking on South Archer Avenue in Chicago when he was hit in the 2800 block. It appears that the driver of the city truck was in reverse when he hit the pedestrian, although police have not said what type of truck was involved in the accident. The victim has been identified as a 44-year-old man, but his name was not released. Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The Cook County Medical Examiner is expected to perform an autopsy this week to determine the exact cause of death.
The driver of the Chicago city truck has been cited in connection with this fatal pedestrian accident. The citations include failing to watch for pedestrians and operating a truck in reverse, presumably without first taking the necessary precautions. Officers with the Major Accident Investigation Unit are still looking into this crash and have not yet closed their investigation.
