July 29, 2010 - A middle-aged woman died last Friday night after she was hit by a train. According to a report at ABC 7 Chicago, the victim was hit shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday night. The train accident occurred just before the train pulled into the Mount Prospect station, near William Street and Northwest Highway.
Police say the Metra train was operated by Union Pacific Northwest and was traveling from Chicago to Harvard. The victim was transported to Northwest Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead around 7:30 p.m. My Fox Chicago is reporting that police identified the victim on Wednesday as a 52-year-old woman from Mount Prospect, a suburb of Chicago.
Police continue to investigate this fatal incident, but they believe that the victim may have been attempting to commit suicide. Their investigation shows that there are no pedestrian crossings in the area where she was hit, leading them to believe that she purposefully walked onto the train tracks. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office performed an autopsy on Saturday.
