Chicago Man Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident


January 3, 2011 - Chicago - The Chicago Police Department has yet to identify the driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in Gage Park on Saturday morning. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the victim died shortly after 4 a.m. after being struck on South Western Avenue.

Detectives with the Major Accidents Division of the Chicago Police Department are investigating this fatal hit-and-run accident. Police believe the victim was walking on South Western Avenue around 3:30 a.m. when he was hit by a green vehicle that then fled the scene. It is not yet clear if the victim was crossing the street or walking on the sidewalk. He has been identified as a 21-year-old man who lived on South Kostner Avenue in Chicago. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, but his injuries were too severe and he died at the hospital. 

Police believe the green vehicle sustained substantial damage to its front end and right side. The headlights may also be damaged. The make and model of the car have not yet been released.
