Car Thief Hits Chicago Police Officer with Stolen Car

August 16, 2010 - A young Chicago man is facing serious charges after he hit a police officer with a stolen car. According to a report at the Chicago Breaking News Center, the 22-year-old man stole a Chevrolet Monte Carlo near South Chicago Avenue and was pursued by an officer with the Chicago Police Department.

As he was attempting to flee the scene in the stolen vehicle, the driver hit the police officer with the car. The officer fired at the car, but he struck a passenger and not the driver. The driver, who has been identified as a 22-year-old man from West Pullman in Chicago, then fled the scene. Police later apprehended the man's passenger, who was injured in the shooting, which led them to the driver. The passenger has not been charged.

The driver has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. He is also facing charges of aggravated battery of a police officer. The officer involved in this incident was not seriously injured and he has been treated and released from a local hospital.
