Car Accident in Stevenson Kills One, Injures Two

July 7, 2010 - An early morning crash in Stevenson killed one man and injured two other people. According to reports at the Chicago Sun-Times, the victim was killed in a two-car crash on the Stevenson Expressway, also known as Interstate 55. The car accident occurred just before 4 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Police say the victim was driving southbound on the Stevenson Expressway in a Volkswagen when he was involved in a crash with a BMW. No information has been released on who was at fault in the car accident or how the crash occurred. The force of the collision propelled the Volkswagen into a ditch on the side of the freeway, where it caught on fire.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was declared dead at MetroSouth Medical Center. Two occupants of the BMW suffered personal injuries and were treated at Rush University Medical Center, where they are expected to survive. The Stevenson Expressway was closed for several hours on Saturday morning as investigators tried to reconstruct the accident. Their investigation is ongoing.
