It doesn't matter whether the driver never obtained insurance coverage, or whether their policy has expired, UM will pay for the damages, including: 

• Medical expenses;
• Lost wages;
• Pain and suffering;
• Disability; and
• Disfigurement. 

Buying More Than the Required Minimum

In fact, rather than buying the required minimum, you should always purchase as much insurance coverage as your budget will allow. The more you buy, the better you and your family will be protected. The increase in price compared to the increase in coverage is relatively small, and it may make a significant difference in the damages that would be covered.
