Another fatal failure to yield motorcycle accident

Even though it is winter here in Chicago, and the pace of motorcycle accidents has dropped way off with many bikes away for the winter, failure-to-yield motorcycle accidents are still occurring at a regular pace elsewhere in the United States.  In Las Vegas last week, a 40-year old rider was killed when a Honda Accord emerged in front of him from a side street.  The driver of the Accord will be ticketed for failing to yield.

One thing that I hear from adjusters (as if to excuse the car drivers) when the accident happens in the spring is that the drivers are just not used to looking for motorcycles after they have been off the road for so long during winter.  That is just nonsense: if that were the problem, accidents like this one should never happen in places like Las Vegas.  However, they do, and the main problem is driver inattention, a problem that is just made worse by distracted driving issues.
