Northfield School District 31 is cutting teaching positions and extra- and co-curricular activities after voters in the recent elections rejected a property tax increase referendum. The need for revenue was brought on by the District's loss of a property tax appeal to Allstate Insurance Company. Allstate's corporate headquarters is located in the district, and they successfully appealed the property tax assessment on the headquarters property. As a result, the District must pay Allstate a refund of $3.3 million in addition to a $2.3 million refund they had previously received.
The bottom line: Allstate wins, District 31 kids lose.
Allstate has been running a series of radio ads touting its position as a Chicago company and its role in supporting the community. If this is the way that Allstate delivers on its claims regarding its role in the community, is there any real reason that you should believe that you are actually in good hands when dealing with a claim involving Allstate?
