Accident on Lake Shore Drive Kills One, Injures Another

October 4, 2010 - A Chicago man has died after a single-vehicle car accident on Lake Shore Drive. According to a report at NBC Chicago, the fatal accident occurred just after noon on Saturday in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Police say the victim was traveling northbound on Lake Shore Drive in a Dodge Neon when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The driver, a 20-year-old woman, suffered serious personal injuries and is now receiving treatment at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The passenger was also transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and he was pronounced dead shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The victim has been identified as a 22-year-old man from Chicago; the driver's identity has not yet been released.

Investigators from the Major Accident Investigation Unit with the Chicago Police Department are investigating this fatal crash. They have not yet said what caused the driver to lose control of her car, but they noted that the driver did not have insurance and has received a citation.
