3 Hurt, 1 Critically When A Motorist Ran A Red Light In Plainfield Car Accident

Interstates, freeways, and tollways are advantageous for drivers because they don't have to worry about stopping for traffic signals at intersections. But many highways do have traffic lights, some of which are spaced far enough apart to where vehicles can reach high rates of speed between them. When red light-running accidents occur on these types of highways, they can be more serious than those that occur on city streets simply because of the potential speeds involved.

One such collision happened last weekend in Will County. On Sunday morning about 7:30am, a 25-year old woman was driving her car on Lincoln Highway (U.S. 30) and reportedly ran a red light at 127th Street in Plainfield. Her vehicle slammed into the side of a sport utility vehicle and pushed it into a utility pole. The 40-year old driver of the SUV had to be extricated from the wreckage, and she was rushed to a hospital in extremely critical condition. Also in the SUV were the woman's 17-year old son and his 17-year old girlfriend. They were both hospitalized with injuries as well.

Illinois State Police have not yet written any citations in the Plainfield car accident, but it certainly appears that the 25-year old woman will be held accountable for the injuries to the occupants of the SUV. (There are also reports that alcohol "played a role" in the crash.) If that is the case, she could be named as a defendant in a personal injury lawsuit filed by the 40-year old Plainfield woman. The victim could file suit both on her own behalf and on behalf of her son, who is a minor. In addition, the parents of the girl could file their own personal injury lawsuit on her behalf against the 25-year old woman.

Both of these lawsuits could seek reimbursement for medical expenses incurred as a result of the crash. The 40-year old woman could also receive compensation for any time missed at work as well.
