A 19 year olf motorcycle rider was injured in a
motorcycle accident when an SUV made a left hand turn in front of him to enter the parking lot of a grocery store. According to news reports, he was in critical condition due to the injuries he suffered in the accident.
There were a few things that struck me as an
experienced Chicago motorcycle accident lawyer when I read this news story:
1. At first blush, it appeared to be a pretty common type of
failure to yield the right-of-way to a motorcycle accident, one that happens far too often.
2. However, as I read the comments, it appeared that a witness to the accident thought that the cause of the accident was that one of the tires on the SUV blew out, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and go into the path of the motorcycle.
If that were the case, there may be a basis for a
defective products suit aganist the manufacturer of the tire and/or the shop that installed it. This is a common issue that we investigate in
motor vehicle accidents with serious injuries. In either event, steps need to be taken immediately to preserve the remains of the tire for further investigation.
3. This young man will have life-long injuries from this accident. Even though he is a young man and had not yet really started his career, it will be important to try to quantify the amount of his wage loss over the course of his lifetime to make sure that he is fully compensated for his damages.
One thing that we do in case ssuch as this is work with vocationsal specialists and economists to quantify the amount of income loss that this young man will have over the course of his lifetime due to loss of job opportunities and a shorter work life. The failure to hire a lawyer who is prepapred to make this evaluation can cost someone in this young man's situation hundreds of thousands of dollars in claim value.
4. There was some indication in the news story that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. We believe in filing suit immediaely in
accidents where drinking and driving are an issue so that all potentially liable defendants can be brought into the case before the expiration of the statute of limitations.
