February 7, 2011 - A 16-year-old boy is facing serious charges after he caused a car accident while driving under the influence of drugs in suburban Naperville. According to a report at the Naperville Sun, the teen crashed his Chevrolet SUV into another vehicle shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Police say there were 3 teenage boys in the SUV when it crashed into a Dodge sedan at the intersection of Naper Boulevard and Ogden Avenue. Apparently the teenager turned left in front of oncoming traffic, which caused the Dodge to slam into the passenger side of the SUV.
The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was treated for minor injuries at Edward Hospital. A 15-year-old boy from Lisle suffered serious personal injuries, and he was transported by helicopter to Children's Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Another 16-year-old boy was also injured, although police believe he will survive. The driver of the Dodge Intrepid, a 17-year-old boy from Lisle, escaped serious injuries.
The teenage driver who caused this crash is facing a number of charges, including driving under the influence of drugs and driving an unsafe vehicle. Police have not said what drugs were involved, and it was not immediately clear what made the SUV unsafe to drive. The teenager was also driving with a suspended driver's license.
